Announcement: Chef Amie Smith hosts new series on YouTube
/Amie Smith, owner of AMIE® Bakery, is a pastry chef and writer—and creator and host of her own series on YouTube designed to educate and inspire you in the kitchen.
Her mission to educate, share, and connect with the community has lead her to write a book on her mid-life career change and journey to open the bakery. Through the YouTube series you’ll learn her favorite recipes sprinkled with entrepreneurial stories and personal anecdotes.
Teaching writing and editing at her alma mater, Northeastern University, for 15-years was the catalyst for launching AMIE Académie, a natural extension for her love of educating others. A perpetual student, she has attended culinary programs globally, and now brings hands-on recreational cooking and baking classes to the bakery’s classroom to help students demystify scratch baking.
As the President of the Retail Bakers of America, Amie continues to immerse herself in the baking industry. She reveres and seeks new ways to connect with anyone who wants to bake or mentors owners and those seeking the entrepreneurial path. Her YouTube channel is another extension for spreading the love of baking.

Meet Chef Amie
All the signs were there. Amie’s mom couldn’t drag her away from watching Julia Child when she was four. Her dad quit his baking job after she was born, but would make cookies in production-size batches at home—with arms deep in stockpots of batter—and no fancy equipment. Just some old cloth pastry bags with piping tips to pipe hundreds of sugar cookies.
A trip to his friend’s bakery was indelibly etched as she watched, mesmerized as dough got scaled, shaped, and egg washed.
Fast forward to adulthood and running her own successful corporate marketing consulting firm for decades, Amie’s life was about to come full circle in 2008 when an economic downturn landed her in a pastry program at the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) in New York City. Going from a packed schedule juggling multiple projects for high-tech clients to an unprecedented amount of free time, enrolling in school was meant to be a time filler until more projects came along. But a sleeping passion was reignited. Suddenly she was making baked goods from scratch and reliving all the tastes from the bakeries she grew up around in her hometown of Wayne, New Jersey.
After graduating from ICE, she spent five years saving for and planning to open a retail bakery. She just had to share the miraculous things that can be spun from butter, sugar, flour, and salt. She used her experience to bring her vision to life, creating her branding and opening AMIE Bakery in 2014 on beautiful Cape Cod.
AMIE is a specialty retail bakery that serves as our town’s kitchen and seeks to fulfill Amie’s mission of reviving the neighborhood bakeries of yesteryear and staying committed to scratch baking.
